“We are still in the midst of the fight that began on Jan. 6, 2021, and we have a lot at stake in this country. And I think that it deserves every American’s attention,” Fanone replied.

Fanone and a group of Capitol Police officers became immediate heroes to the people who had been outspoken in their criticism of the police. After shouting abuse and threats against the police in the past, these people are now praising Fanone and his partner, Harry Dunn, for their bravery in quelling a small-scale disturbance.

His testimony was used by Nancy Pelosi’s January 6 Committee, which disregarded congressional regulations that forbade House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from choosing the members of his own committee.

At another point in the interview, Fanone was questioned by Capehart regarding the former president Donald Trump’s pledge to release the January 6 prisoners if re-elected. How harmful is it that Trump called those rioters who used violence and were found guilty of crimes hostages?”Questioned the MSNBC host.

“I mean, you’ve got to think about those individuals that received those lengthy sentences. They did so because a) they engaged in an Insurrection. But their actions that day were violent, and that violence was directed towards law enforcement officers. And so… I think it’s clear that they deserve the sentences that they received,” Fanone replied.

“But by Donald Trump referring to them as hostages and speaking about them sympathetically, he’s lending his authority as the former president to their actions,” he added.
