“Businesses are watching this case. No business will go back into New York. No business will, frankly, stay in New York. A lot of businesses are talking about leaving New York because of this action. This is a very serious action,” the former president said.
The video was shared on Thursday night by Ron Filipkowski, the editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch.com, a website well-known for its vehement criticism of Trump.
“Trump says all businesses in NY will leave the state if he loses his case,” Filipkowski said in the X post.
James claims that in order to receive financial benefits from banks and insurance companies, the front-runner for the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination and his Trump Organization artificially inflated property values.
Judge Engoron’s decision in September to value the Trump Organization’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, at a startlingly low $18 million was startling and confusing.
The attorney general is making a daring move by requesting $250 million in fines and possibly prohibiting Trump from doing business in New York.
Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy has pointed out that there are no alleged victims in the James-Engoron case. No complaints were submitted. Thus, it can be said that there were no fraudulent acts carried out by Trump or the Trump Organization.

In a larger context, the specifics of the case don’t really matter.
Examining these particulars is akin to evaluating a “case” that was overseen by Roland Freisler, the president of the ironically named “People’s Court” of the Third Reich from 1942 to 1945.

Furthermore, Trump had a strong incentive to spread awareness among other entrepreneurs. “This could happen to you, too” is a timeless cautionary tale for those who might fall prey to repressive government.
His correct statement might not matter, though, for two reasons.
Unfortunately, desperate pleas are frequently turned down. Historically, companies have usually adjusted to governments rather than the other way around.
It is true that there are many examples of prosperous businesspeople taking advantage of totalitarian governments. It is crucial to remember, though, that very few people—like Oskar Schindler in Nazi Germany—truly put justice ahead of their own interests.
It is undeniable that Trump’s appeal was more about serving particular interests than it was about a generalized notion of justice.
This further reduces the likelihood that companies would relocate to New York, which leads us to the second reason why Trump’s remarks might not matter.
Since exposing the real nature of American and international elites and winning their deep contempt, the former president has grown to be a significant figure on a global scale. In American history, nothing compares to his legacy.
The James-Engoron case is unlikely to impact other businesses in New York as their leaders do not possess the same level of importance as Trump.
While some have chosen to put their own financial interests ahead of those of others, the previous president has boldly faced those who have committed wrongdoing. These people don’t think they own President Trump’s destiny.
Menacing regimes should terrify businesses.
In actuality, though, it hasn’t always followed this pattern.
