Following a string of unsettling incidents on federal roadways, train tracks, and in the nation’s skies, conservatives are once again criticizing President Joe Biden’s nominee for transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg.
Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) harshly criticized Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of a small town, during an interview on Fox Business. In order to protest Buttigieg’s poor work performance, Greene stated that she wanted the Senate to vote with her House colleagues to cut his pay to a symbolic dollar. Buttigieg’s use of private aircraft, which she alleges adds to carbon dioxide pollution, is one of Greene’s complaints.

“Mayor Pothole Pete — and that is a name for him that perfectly fits — has abused taxpayer dollars, flown all over the country in carbon-emitting, jet-fueled airplanes and private jets, even flown to Canada to receive an award based on his sexuality which I found outrageous. It shouldn’t be about identity politics,” said Greene.
“Never forget the video where he pulled a bicycle out of a gas-guzzling SUV so he could ride the bicycle and pretend to ride it to the White House. This guy’s a scammer, he’s a liar, he’s not qualified to be the Secretary of Transportation, and he absolutely needs to be fired.”

Conservatives who doubt Transportation Secretary Buttigieg’s qualifications have also criticized President Biden for his diminishing poll numbers. Recently, during a forum, Buttigieg was interrupted by climate protestors, which caused him to quickly leave the stage. They called him “Fossil Fuel Pete” because of his support for numerous energy initiatives. Even when Democrats make an effort to back him, it’s usually in the form of token actions like adding female crash test dummies to inspections of cars.

Concerns are being raised by the federal Department of Transportation’s preference for ESG policies over fundamental safety measures, especially in light of multiple tragic train derailments. In one such instance, dangerous chemicals were released into the community in East Palestine, Ohio. Though disappointed by President Biden’s lack of visitation, the local mayor praised former President Donald Trump and his family for their assistance during the aftermath.
