The ability of Zuckerberg to influence American elections is rapidly dwindling. A legislation that forbids the use of private cash for election administration was approved by Louisiana voters.
Voters were asked to respond to the following question about Amendment 1:
BALLOT LANGUAGE: Do you support an amendment to prohibit the use of funds, goods, or services from a foreign government or a nongovernmental source to conduct elections and election functions and duties unless the use is authorized by the secretary of state through policies established in accordance with law?
In the polls held on Saturday, 72.6% of voters accepted the proposed amendment to Louisiana’s constitution. In it, it is said “[n]o funds, goods, or services donated by a foreign government or a nongovernmental source shall be used to conduct elections unless provided for in the election code and subject to restrictions under general law.”
With a constitutional amendment, Louisiana becomes the 26th state to ban the use of outside funding in elections, making history in the process.
“Elections should never be privatized in Louisiana or anywhere else, and we’re pleased that voters resoundingly decided to ban ‘Zuckerbucks’ once and for all at the polls,” The Election Transparency Initiative’s chair, Ken Cuccinelli, told The Federalist.
The State Freedom Caucus Network’s Andy Roth said in a statement to The Federalist that he is “honored” that his group could take part in the effort to make it “illegal for foreign or private money to be used in elections.”
“Louisiana has struck a blow against Zuckerbucks and all of its iterations,” Roth said.
The Federalist issues a warning on the need for further safeguards to stop self-described “philanthropic” politicians and billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg from meddling in American elections.

Republicans may still need to put more effort into thwarting Democrats’ changing strategies even while they forbid the type of corporate takeover of election administration that took place in 2020. The U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence, a $80 million project supported by left-leaning groups to help ensure “systematically influence every aspect of election administration” ― is aiming to emulate a similar tactic to that of 2020 by promoting voting policies endorsed by Democrats in local election offices. The Alliance, of which CTCL is a significant participant, aims to give election offices “scholarships” to pay membership expenses so that they may be reimbursed later on, according to a study from the Honest Elections Project and the John Locke Foundation. “Converted into ‘credits’ that member offices can use to buy services from CTCL and other Alliance partners.”
Legal action has often been used to protect elections against interference by private parties.
According to the Advocate, 26 Louisiana election officials submitted grant proposals to Zuckerberg’s foundation, the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTLC), for a projected $7.8 million in funding in 2020.
Jeff Landry, the attorney general, was successful in stopping those applications.

‘Zuckbucks’ are no more in the following 26 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.
