Republicans in the House are refusing to back Jim Jordan for speaker.
Republicans and Democrats are negotiating a possible Speaker and power-sharing arrangement. After many Republicans contacted him, Democratic House Leader Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged the conversations. According to Politico, a faction led by House Armed Services Committee Chair Mike Rogers has voiced opposition to Jordan’s candidacy.
However, given the number of holdouts who indicated they would be backing Jordan over the weekend, the founding member of the Freedom Caucus looks to have made tremendous headway. Rep. Rogers said on social media that he had “two cordial, thoughtful, and productive conversations” over the weekend and came to the conclusion that he could lead the GOP conference in opposition to the Democrats and their plan.
After weighing his choices, Rogers decides to support Jordan with the support of Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO).
But there are still a few dissenters, including Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL). Even though McCarthy has backed Jordan and said that he is doing “everything [he] can” to assist him win the Speakership, Gimenez informed Fox News that he will still be voting for Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
“I’ve been very, very vocal about it and I’ve also been very consistent. Since Wednesday I’ve been in the same place and I’m gonna stick to it,” Gimenez said. “Look, eight Republicans voted with 208 Democrats to oust the Speaker of the House, our Speaker of the House, our leader, that we supported by 96 percent. And so, I think the way out of this is to go back into the future I guess, and just reinstate Kevin McCarthy.”
Jordan has been given the support of McCarthy, who believes she can secure the necessary number of votes to become Speaker. Jordan can only afford to have four Republican detractors in order to retain the Speaker position given the slim Republican majority.

The Republicans need to get together and back Jordan. Do they want another Democrat as speaker….do they have such short memories that they don’t remember the fiasco of Nancy’s leadership. Please think about America and Americans and join together in unity to back Jordan. Let’s get on with the important business facing our country and stop with the back biting and nit picking.
We have a razor-thin majority in the House, but these Kindergartners will probably make a DEMOCRAT Speaker of the House with their childish sandbox games. I can assure them we’ll remember their un-American votes come next election!
If the House Republicans cannot get together to vote for Jim Jordan, the man that Trump recommended for the Speakership, maybe they can and should vote for Donald Trump instead. He’s said he’d accept the Speakership temporarily, and boy do they need to get a Speaker and get on with business.
