Is This a Joke? Biden’s International Women Of Courage Award Goes To a Man

The government of President Joe Biden is outstanding in its dedication to gender equality. In a historic decision, the inaugural International Women of Courage award was given to a male, demonstrating that all people who speak up against injustice and prejudice are entitled of respect and adulation.

A special event, presided over by First Lady Jill Biden, was conducted on Wednesday at the State Department to honor the extraordinary women of the globe. These extraordinary women were hailed as great role models and rewarded for their outstanding contributions to society.

If one is to believe the language from a Sunday media release by the State Department, the 17th annual prize honorees were a remarkable group.

Professor Danièle Darlan, a Central African Republic native and former head of the country’s Constitutional Court, received recognition for “her defense of her nation’s constitution, her heroism in safeguarding judicial independence, and her refusal to be influenced by threats or political pressure.

“Her final act as President of the Court before her removal by the government, in which she found that methods proposed to redraft the constitution were not legally sound, exemplified her unwavering commitment to the rule of law,” As mentioned in the press release.

Then there was Kazakhstan’s Bakhytzhan Toregozhina: “Since January 2022, she has been the head of ‘Qantar 2022’ (January 2022) a coalition of civil society organizations working to assist victims and document human rights violations associated with the widespread unrest that occurred in Kazakhstan last January,” the release stated.

Malaysian senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, meantime “has spent most of her professional life advancing and promoting human rights, selflessly advocating for vulnerable populations and using her platforms to shed light on injustices in Malaysian society.” She is also the first woman to hold the influential, state-run media organization Bernama’s chairmanship.

Alba Rueda, who “identifies” as a “woman” while being born male, is testing the limits of what society can allow. As an activist, Alba puts forth a lot of effort to have this distinct view of gender identity recognized and accepted.

“Alba Rueda, Argentina’s current Special Envoy for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, was the first Argentine Undersecretary for Diversity Policies in the newly created Ministry of Women, Gender, and Diversity,” The State Department’s word salad meant to explain why he was worthy of the distinction claimed that.

“Ms. Rueda was the driving force behind Argentina’s executive order on the transgender labor quota in the public sector which was converted into the Transgender Labor Quota Act,” it continued.

“She previously worked in the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in their National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI) as well as the Argentine Secretariat for Human Rights. She is one of the founders of Argentina Trans Women (MTA) and actively engages with Notitrans, the first transgender magazine in Argentina.”

Rueda has advanced his understanding of student organizations and advocacy because to his history in campus activism. His biography, as provided by the Argentine publication Infobae, demonstrates how he has emerged as a role model for students hoping to bring about substantive change on campus.

“Alba is salty. She arrived in Buenos Aires in the nineties with her family and at the age of 16 she chose her name. After finishing high school at Normal 10, in Barrancas de Belgrano, she enrolled in Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires,” the transgender activist’s biography from May 2022 read.

“But after only two subjects to graduate, she dropped out, tired of the violence and discrimination of the teachers who refused to recognize her self-perceived identity and, for example, forced her to leave the classroom or prevented her from taking exams.”

“Alba joined the trans militancy in 2003 and has always faced the segregation of transvestites and trans from feminist spaces and women’s movements. In 2006 she started working at INADI. When the Identity Law was sanctioned, she was responsible for 0800, the telephone assistance line of that organization.”

Women from hazardous and unstable countries, where state-sanctioned persecution of both genders is frequent, took the dais on Wednesday. This was a forceful reminder that although Argentina’s exclusion of transgender individuals is unjust, there are many other places with much worse conditions. Supporting everyone confronting injustice globally should be our aim.

Women all throughout the globe have made outstanding contributions deserving of recognition while facing various obstacles in their specialized fields.

By taking over as Chairperson of one of Southeast Asia’s most known state-run media enterprises, Bernama, Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi has shattered the mold. Her unusual selection demonstrates her leadership and capacity to advance to powerful positions.

Polish journalist Bianka Zalewska, who has been living in Ukraine for over ten years, has diligently reported on Russia’s attack against her own country. The US State Department has lauded her for her unwavering reporting on issues affecting global safety and stability. “persevered through life-threatening injuries suffered when her press car came under fire from Russian proxy forces in Luhansk Oblast in 2014.”

According to USA Today: “Other honorees include an indigenous rights leader from Costa Rica, an Ethiopian journalist covering gender-based violence in the country, a doctor who grew up under Taliban rule in Afghanistan and now advocates for Afghan refugees in Turkey and the women of Iran who have led uprisings against the government’s repressive laws against women.”

These trailblazing women unquestionably left a lasting effect with their amazing accomplishments as the first people of their gender to go into uncharted areas.

Since their nominee for the Supreme Court lacks even a fundamental knowledge of what it is to be a woman, the present administration is having trouble recognizing the differences between men and women.

On this International Women’s Day, we consider the strides that have been achieved in promoting and recognizing gender equality. After choosing not to attend their own ceremony honoring women’s achievements throughout the globe, leaders from the State Department and “Dr.” Jill Biden seemed to be echoing the reality that there are still many challenges to be faced. What further may be done to ensure that such a significant event of female solidarity across society has real meaning, then, is raised by this.

Although the progressive message it aimed to deliver, Wednesday’s decision by the White House to recognize Alba Rueda was generally seen as a disrespectful act towards women. There were other, more suitable occasions that could have recognized her advocacy without having to use such a significant platform. Doing so would have prevented this undesirable outcome.
