Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy launched a fiery attack on Rep. Adam Schiff in a message to the media for his years-long pattern of lying about President Trump and Russia, which has amounted to a witch hunt leading to phony impeachment hearings. According to McCarthy, such conduct seriously undermined American confidence and the welfare of its people with little actual advantage or repercussion for those guilty.
“Adam shift openly lied to the American public. He told you he had proof. He told you he didn’t know the whistleblower. He put America for four years to an impeachment that he knew was a lie.”

The politicization of the Intel Committee under Schiff and Co., according to Speaker McCarthy, raises concerns about whether enough monitoring was in place at the time and may have led to two of this decade’s most significant foreign policy blunders. He firmly expressed his opinions on these issues:
“At the same time we had Ukraine at the same time we had Afghanistan collapse. Was that the role of the Intel Committee? No. So what I am doing with the Intel Committee, bringing it back to the jurisdiction is supposed to do forward looking to keep this country safe. Keep the politics out of it.”
Later, Speaker McCarthy posted the video of himself stating similar arguments with the caption “Adam Schiff openly and repeatedly lied to the American public. The House Intelligence Committee is no place for politics. I’m going to restore it to its original role of keeping our country safe.”
McCarthy’s post sparked an immediate and anticipated outcry from the left, with several commentators vehemently accusing him of protecting Trump by working for Putin. These responses seemed to be sceptical of Schiff’s story as they hurled allegations against McCarthy carelessly.

Despite Democratic opposition, McCarthy has threatened to kick Swalwell off the Intel Committee – yet it appears this plan may not come into fruition. The Hill asserts that “it could all be for nothing.”
It’s still unclear if House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy will have the chance to take action against Schiff and Swalwell as the political fight over the Republican plan to remove three Democrats from committees heats up. McCarthy’s power play may be considerably impacted by Rep. Hakeem Jeffries’ choice to appoint those two to the Congress’ Intelligence panel for the 2021–2022 session.
There is talk about whether HPSCI Chair Jeffries would seek a waiver to prolong Congressman Swalwell’s term now that he has over the four-cycle limit. For Schiff, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, who works outside of these restrictions, this option is not available.
