The legal team for Arizona Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs worked quickly this week to make sure she won’t have to testify in a lawsuit filed by Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake. In an effort to avoid more legal actions, emergency petitions have been filed with state courts.
On Monday, Hobbs’ legal team stepped up and filed a petition to prevent their client from being required to testify in Lake’s case. The necessity for one of Hobbs’ responsibilities as Secretary of State was argued before the court on Wednesday.

In her lawsuit, Lake claims that a number of problems in Maricopa County, Arizona’s most populated county, on election day contributed to her narrow loss to Hobbs. The electoral leadership, however, has denied these allegations.
Judge Peter Thompson of the State Superior Court made a notable decision against Hobbs’ request on Monday evening. His ruling illuminated a legal drama that had hitherto been shrouded by the substantial complexity of this difficult matter. “activity wholly within her wheelhouse: the conduct of elections,” the Western Journal reports.
On Monday night, Hobbs’ legal team filed a fresh motion, highlighting the fact that their client had no connection to the two charges at issue in Lake’s case and that, as a result, his testimony was not required.
“Though there was no good-faith basis for the Subpoena to begin with … there is absolutely no good faith basis to require the Secretary to testify now given the scope of the MTD Order,” In their second move, Hobbs’ legal team made a notation.
“And to the extent Plaintiff has any questions that are relevant (and there is simply no way she could), Kori Lorick, State Elections Director, has already been disclosed as a potential witness who ‘may testify regarding the Arizona Secretary of State’s election-related duties and responsibilities, or other matters related to the Secretary of State’s Office relevant to this case,’” Attorneys for Hobbs added.
Sen. Wendy Rogers, a Republican from Arizona, tweeted in reaction to that: “Katie Hobbs just filed a Motion to Quash. Good luck. She refused to debate and now she doesn’t want to testify?”
Due to the subpoena’s lack of relevance to Lake’s case, Lake’s lawyers dropped it on Tuesday. Garrett Archer, a political analyst for KNXV-TV, was notable in pointing out that the two offenses were solely tied to Maricopa County and as a result had no bearing on the secretary of state’s office.
Long lineups and widespread voter disenfranchisement were the results of Maricopa County’s Election Day mishaps, which affected a large number of polling places. Currently, charges of deliberate fraud and printer and tabulator issues affecting 132 locations nationally and almost 60% of the county have been made in the case Lake v. Maricopa.
Earlier, Thompson granted demands from Lake’s legal team to examine 50 random “ballot on demand” 50 early ballots cast from the 50 printed votes cast on Election Day, plus “six separate Maricopa County batches.” The court approved the examination of 50 more printed ballots produced via ballot-on-demand containing voided markings after carefully reviewing the case.
As the last stage in verifying vote legitimacy and correctness, scrutineering is scheduled to start on this coming Tuesday. The neighborhood will quickly feel heard and respected!
“I am thankful to Judge Peter Thompson and his team for the work they do and we are confident that given the opportunity, we will expose this election for the sham it was,” Lake said in a statement after the decision.
In a recent article, Just the News mentioned:
Representative Lake recently received permission from a judge in Maricopa County Superior Court to review votes from all throughout the county as part of continuing legal procedures. This will enable her to have a closer look at any paperwork that voters have sent in or provided in person.
Despite holding a lead in the polls, Lake’s Democrat opponent significantly outperformed her during the 2022 midterm elections. What some predicted would be a “red wave” of unsuccessful Republican candidates throughout the country instead crashed into unanticipated Democratic triumph.
In front of a rowdy audience, Lake over the weekend brought down the house at Florida’s Mar-a-Lago club where former President Donald Trump is a member. The “evil b*stards” who were participating in the Arizona governor’s election received harsh criticism from Lake.
An excerpt of Lake’s speech, in which they made an encouraging declaration, was captured on film and is available online. “They messed with the wrong b*tch!”
