Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed is projecting confidence as Michigan’s November election approaches, telling CNN that he expects to defeat Republican nominee Mike Rogers by seven percentage points.
But with Election Day only weeks away, El-Sayed still has work to do within his own party.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor, a fellow Democrat, has not committed to supporting El-Sayed. Schor told CNN that he wants to speak directly with the Democratic nominee before deciding whether to offer his backing. According to CNN, however, El-Sayed has not yet contacted the mayor.
“If he doesn’t need me, he doesn’t need me,” Schor said. “And that’s their strategic decision.”
