President Donald Trump is shedding new light on a dramatic security operation in Britain after five men were arrested near RAF Fairford, a military installation that has been used by U.S. forces during operations against Iran.
The arrests came early Sunday morning after British authorities received a report concerning three suspicious vehicles apparently traveling toward the air base in Gloucestershire. Armed officers responded and detained five men in the nearby Whelford area. British counterterrorism officials said the suspects were being held on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act as well as alleged offenses under the Explosives Act.
Trump addressed the incident while speaking briefly with reporters at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
The president praised the cooperation between American and British authorities and indicated that investigators had been monitoring the suspects before making the arrests.
