A former senior federal immigration official is facing criminal charges after prosecutors accused him of exploiting his government position to allegedly sell immigration benefits to applicants willing to pay.
Lukman Owolabi Ganiyu, a former senior immigration services officer with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, was arrested September 2 along with Adeniyi Akeem Somoye, whom authorities identify as an alleged co-conspirator.
According to federal prosecutors, the two men were involved in an alleged corruption scheme that operated for years and involved the manipulation of immigration cases in exchange for money.
