A sweeping federal investigation has uncovered what prosecutors describe as a massive fraud operation that allegedly siphoned more than $1.4 million from taxpayer-funded assistance programs in Massachusetts, leading to criminal charges against 15 individuals—including 11 illegal aliens.
The arrests mark the beginning of what federal officials say will be an aggressive effort to root out abuse within government assistance programs that were created to help struggling American families.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the defendants are accused of exploiting a wide range of public assistance programs, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, MassHealth, Social Security disability payments, federal housing assistance, and other taxpayer-funded services.
Federal authorities allege that the defendants used stolen identities, fraudulent documents, and false statements to obtain benefits they were not legally entitled to receive. Investigators say the scheme resulted in more than $1.4 million in losses across multiple government programs.
Court records indicate that 11 of the accused were unlawfully present in the United States. Several were identified as citizens of the Dominican Republic, while another was identified as an Indian national. The remaining defendants are American citizens.
