Federal authorities have moved swiftly against a man accused of issuing chilling death threats against a federal immigration officer and the officer’s family during a chaotic anti-ICE demonstration outside a New Jersey detention facility.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Nicholas Scelfo of Brooklyn, New York, was taken into federal custody Saturday after investigators linked him to a disturbing viral video filmed during unrest near the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark.
The arrest comes as tensions continue to escalate surrounding protests targeting federal immigration enforcement operations. Demonstrators have gathered outside the facility for days, with some activists claiming detainees inside were engaged in a hunger strike. The situation eventually spiraled into confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers tasked with securing the property.
One of the most alarming moments emerged on video that quickly spread across social media platforms. In the footage, Scelfo allegedly directs a series of explicit threats toward ICE personnel standing guard outside the facility.
