An already disturbing incident at Denver International Airport has taken on an even darker undertone after new reporting revealed the man involved had a long and troubled criminal history stretching back more than two decades.
What began as a shocking airport security breach on Friday quickly escalated into a fatal tragedy when a man entered a restricted area and ultimately came into contact with a departing aircraft engine at Denver International Airport. Authorities later identified the individual as 41-year-old Michael Mott, who died after being pulled into one of the engines of an Airbus A-321neo.
Officials confirmed that Mott’s cause of death was listed as multiple blunt and sharp force injuries. While the circumstances surrounding the event were immediately unusual and alarming, the case was ultimately ruled a suicide, according to KTBC-TV anchor Alec Nolan, who also shared video related to the aftermath of the incident.
At the time, the story made national headlines largely because of the bizarre and horrifying nature of what took place on airport grounds—one of the most secure environments in the country. But the situation has since grown more complicated as new details about Mott’s past have come to light.
