Vacation travelers in Southern California got an unexpected reminder this week that federal immigration enforcement doesn’t take days off — even when the setting looks like a family cruise terminal.
Federal agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) conducted a series of coordinated enforcement actions at the Port of San Diego involving cruise ships tied to Disney and Holland America, resulting in multiple arrests that unfolded in plain view of passengers and dock workers.
The first operation centered on the Disney Magic, where agents boarded the vessel and took ten crew members into custody while guests were still disembarking and beginning their vacations. Witnesses described a sudden shift from routine port activity to federal enforcement as individuals in uniformed cruise roles were detained and escorted off the ship.
Just two days later, federal agents returned to the same terminal. This time, they targeted a Holland America vessel, removing four additional workers in a second wave of arrests. In total, fourteen crew members were detained across two ships in the span of 48 hours at one of California’s busiest cruise gateways.
