A shocking security breach at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner has reignited a long-running battle in Washington over one of President Donald Trump’s most controversial proposals: building a high-security ballroom inside the White House complex.
What was supposed to be a routine night of media, politics, and spectacle quickly turned into chaos.
Within minutes of arriving at the event, Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and top administration officials were rushed out under heavy Secret Service protection. Agents reportedly flooded the stage with weapons drawn as confusion spread across the packed ballroom at the Washington Hilton.
Guests scrambled for cover as reports of gunfire spread.
A Night That Changed the Conversation
Authorities say the incident unfolded just outside the main ballroom, where a 31-year-old suspect allegedly forced his way through a secured checkpoint while armed with a long gun and knives. In the confrontation that followed, a Secret Service agent was shot in the chest before the attacker was neutralized.
