Pop icon Cyndi Lauper is facing a wave of backlash online after posting a political video that critics say completely missed the mark—and may have done more harm than good for the cause she was trying to support.
The controversy erupted after Lauper shared an Instagram clip attacking the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility Act, commonly known as the SAVE Act. In the video, she warned viewers that the legislation is “not about protecting against voter fraud – it’s about voter suppression.”
That message didn’t land the way she likely expected.
Instead of applause, her own comment section quickly filled with criticism. Many followers accused her of reading from a script rather than speaking authentically. Others openly rejected her take on the bill.
“Stick to performing and stop with politics,” one commenter fired back.
Another viewer pointed out what appeared to be a teleprompter reflection, writing: “Wow… I can see by the reflection behind you it appears you are reading off a teleprompter. How much money were you paid for this FALSE ADVERTISEMENT?”
