President Donald Trump is shedding new light on high-stakes negotiations with Iran, revealing both progress and a critical sticking point that could shape the next phase of U.S. strategy in the Middle East.
In a series of posts on Truth Social and during media appearances, Trump detailed the outcome of Vice President JD Vance’s lengthy diplomatic engagement with Iranian officials. According to Trump, while several areas of agreement were reached, the core issue—Tehran’s nuclear ambitions—remains unresolved.
In an early morning message, Trump characterized the talks as largely productive but emphasized the one issue that continues to overshadow everything else. He wrote that discussions “went well” and that “most points were agreed to,” but made it clear that “the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not.”
That unresolved nuclear question, Trump suggested, outweighs any progress made elsewhere. He warned that Iran’s leadership continues to be “volatile, difficult, [and] unpredictable,” raising concerns about whether any partial agreement could be trusted or sustained in the long term.
