Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spent years positioning herself as one of the loudest critics of election denial, repeatedly accusing Donald Trump and his allies of undermining confidence in American democracy. Now, in a stunning reversal that’s raising eyebrows across the political spectrum, Pelosi is warning voters that Republicans could manipulate election technology and produce what she described as a “false count” in the upcoming midterm elections.
The comments came during a televised interview with Ali Vitali on MSNBC’s “MS NOW,” where Pelosi appeared firm and unapologetic in her claims. At 86 years old, the longtime Democratic leader did not soften her rhetoric or qualify her concerns. Instead, she suggested that Democrats must remain vigilant beyond traditional legal and legislative efforts.
“We have to be on guard as to what they may try to do to the technology,” Pelosi said. “They may try to creep into the technology and create a false count.”
What stood out wasn’t just the severity of the accusation—it was the absence of specifics. Pelosi did not provide evidence, cite intelligence findings, or identify any particular threat actors, systems, or jurisdictions. The claim, broad and unsubstantiated, has drawn criticism from those who recall her years of condemning similar rhetoric when it came from Republicans.
