Iran has publicly insisted that no talks are underway. But on Tuesday, Pete Hegseth took to the Pentagon podium and delivered a striking update that challenges that claim—and signals a dramatic shift in the conflict’s trajectory.
Operation Epic Fury Decimates Iran’s Military
Standing alongside Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, Hegseth shared a battlefield assessment that would have seemed impossible just months ago. He stated that Iran’s defense industrial base is “nearly completely destroyed,” painting a stark picture of U.S. dominance.
American warplanes now operate freely over Iranian airspace, targeting mobile missile launchers and drone platforms the moment they appear. Gen. Caine confirmed that U.S. forces have struck more than 11,000 targets since the launch of Operation Epic Fury on February 28.
The cost has been real: 13 American service members have been killed, including six soldiers in a Kuwait drone strike, six airmen who perished when a refueling tanker went down over friendly territory, and one soldier in Saudi Arabia.
“Just one month in – only one month – we set the terms,” Hegseth told reporters. The results, he emphasized, are undeniable.
