President Donald Trump has spent the past several weeks overseeing one of the most aggressive military campaigns in modern history. But now, a sudden and unexpected escalation has exposed a growing divide between Washington and its closest ally in the region.

Israel launched a strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, a site of enormous global importance. This is not just another target. South Pars is widely considered the largest natural gas reserve on the planet, shared between Iran and Qatar, and capable of supplying the world’s energy needs for years.
The move caught Washington off guard.
Trump wasted no time responding publicly, making it clear the United States had no role in the operation.
