Tensions erupted on Capitol Hill Wednesday as Sen. Rand Paul launched a blistering attack on fellow Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin during a confirmation hearing, raising long-standing questions about his colleague’s suitability to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
The confrontation centered on Mullin’s past behavior, with Paul openly accusing him of having “anger issues” and demanding the Senate and the American public be assured of his temperament.
“Explain to the American public why they should trust a man with anger issues to set the proper example for ICE and Border Patrol agents,” Paul pressed, directly challenging the Oklahoma Republican.
Moments later, Paul intensified his critique, pointing to past clashes that have drawn national attention.
“Explain to the American public how a man who has no regrets about brawling in a Senate committee can set a proper example for over 250,000 men and women who work at the Department of Homeland Security.”
