Six months ago, ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel off the air after he defended a left-wing attacker. Yet Sunday night, Hollywood gave him one of the biggest stages in the world: the Oscars.
From Documentary Awards to Political Attacks
Kimmel presented the Best Documentary awards at the 98th Academy Awards and used the opportunity to launch a full-scale attack on the Trump family. He mocked Melania Trump’s Amazon documentary, contrasting it with what he called “real” filmmaking.
“There’s an international community of filmmakers dedicated to telling the truth, oftentimes at great risk to make films that teach us, that call out injustice, that inspire us to take action,” Kimmel said.
He then added, “And there are also documentaries where you walk around the White House trying on shoes.”
When announcing the Best Documentary Feature, he looked up and joked, “Oh, man, is he going to be mad his wife wasn’t nominated for this.” The crowd at the Dolby Theatre erupted in laughter.
