A dramatic and deadly confrontation unfolded in Dallas this week after a man tied to the security detail of Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett was killed in a standoff with police. The incident has raised serious questions about how an individual with a troubling criminal past could have been connected to a congressional security operation.
The man, identified publicly as Mike King, died Wednesday night after a tense standoff with Dallas SWAT officers inside a parking garage. Authorities say the encounter escalated rapidly after officers attempted to take him into custody.
According to law enforcement sources cited by CBS News Texas, King had been wanted by authorities for impersonating a police officer. Investigators say he had also been operating a business that allegedly connected police officers with off-duty security jobs across the North Texas area.
The situation took a deadly turn when officers attempted to confront him.
CBS reported that police tracked King to a hospital parking structure where he attempted to evade capture. The suspect allegedly barricaded himself inside a vehicle, triggering a SWAT response as officers tried to resolve the situation without further escalation.
