Former CNN firebrand Jim Acosta built his reputation on dramatic showdowns and grand speeches about protecting democracy. But this week, the former cable news fixture found himself sitting quietly while one of the most outlandish conspiracy claims in recent memory unfolded live on his own program.

The guest was Rosie O’Donnell, calling in from Ireland, where she has relocated in what critics have described as a political self-exile. Instead of offering measured commentary, O’Donnell dove headfirst into speculation about the July 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania — an attack that left one man dead and others injured before law enforcement neutralized the gunman.
Without hesitation, O’Donnell told viewers that the incident did not add up in her mind. Referring to President Donald Trump’s injury, she declared, “His ear miraculously healed.” She doubled down moments later, adding, “His ear miraculously regenerated. People, what else do you need?”
She even mocked the event as a “magic ear” scenario and suggested the entire episode deserved a documentary treatment.
But there was nothing magical about what happened that day in Butler.
