An Indiana school district is facing intense scrutiny after a married school secretary was arrested on multiple felony charges stemming from alleged sexual relationships with teenage students — a case that began in the most shocking way possible.

On Valentine’s Day, a husband walked into a situation no spouse ever expects to see. According to investigators, he discovered his 31 year old wife, Alicia Hughes, with an 18 year old male student. The confrontation that followed would trigger a criminal investigation that uncovered far more disturbing allegations tied to her role inside a public school.
Hughes worked at Union City Junior Senior High School as a front office secretary for the Randolph Eastern School Corporation. Her job seemed routine. She answered phones. She handled attendance. She processed absence calls from students and parents. But authorities now say that routine access may have provided the opening for something far darker.
Court records reveal that in September 2025, a 17 year old student called the school to report himself absent. Hughes reportedly answered the phone. Investigators say that interaction did not end there. Soon after, Hughes allegedly began communicating with the teen through her personal cellphone. What followed, according to charging documents, were meetings at a local park and other off campus locations.
