MLB Vet Destroys Newsom on SAT Comments!

Veteran MLB outfielder Tommy Pham didn’t hold back in criticizing California Governor Gavin Newsom after the governor used his own low SAT scores to draw a parallel with Black Americans—comments many are now calling tone-deaf and condescending.

The remarks came during a February 23 appearance in Atlanta, where Newsom joined Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens to promote his memoir, Young Man in a Hurry. Political observers widely view the memoir tour as a stepping stone toward a potential 2028 presidential run.

Speaking to a largely Black audience, Newsom attempted to connect over his personal struggles with dyslexia. “I’m not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to impress upon you, ‘I’m like you. I’m not better than you.’ I’m a 960 SAT guy,” he said, referencing a score well below the national average of 1050–1100.

The governor continued, “And I’m not trying to offend anyone. I’m not trying to act all there if you got 940 … You’ve never seen me read a speech because I cannot read a speech.” His remarks were intended, he suggested, to show humility—but instead sparked widespread criticism.
