DNA Test FAILS as Reward in Guthrie Case Explodes

However, officials confirmed that the DNA recovered from the glove failed to generate a match in any federal criminal databases. This development has slowed progress but has not stopped the investigation. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has indicated it may expand its search by utilizing additional genealogy databases in hopes of identifying a suspect or suspect network.

Authorities acknowledged that similar techniques have been used successfully in other major cases, including long-unsolved murders in California and the high-profile killings of four college students in Idaho. Still, in this case, the trail has gone frustratingly cold.

Investigators have emphasized that the only confirmed biological evidence directly tied to Nancy Guthrie at the scene was blood discovered on the front steps of her home. No other physical evidence conclusively connects her to the items found away from the residence.

Despite intense scrutiny, law enforcement officials have formally cleared members of the Guthrie family as suspects. Former Pima County Sheriff Richard Carmona publicly criticized how the investigation has been handled, expressing sharp disappointment with leadership decisions.

“We are just disappointed at the level or lack of leadership at the senior position and some of the remarks that are quite embarrassing,” Carmona said in a statement to Fox News.

Current Sheriff Chris Nanos pushed back against suggestions of internal conflict or mismanagement. He denied any rift between local authorities and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, insisting cooperation remains strong. Nanos told local media the agencies have a “great working relationship” and stressed that the case remains active and ongoing.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that more than one person was involved. According to Nanos, authorities believe an accomplice may have assisted the suspected kidnapper seen in the doorbell footage outside Guthrie’s home on the night she disappeared. He also stated that investigators believe Guthrie was specifically targeted.

Video recovered from a Google Nest doorbell camera remains the only usable footage obtained from the property. Engineers are still working to retrieve additional recordings from other cameras at the home, and investigators say they are hopeful that advancing technology may yet reveal new clues.

As the search continues, the reward for information has grown significantly. The 88-CRIME tip line announced its portion of the reward increased to $102,500 following a $100,000 anonymous donation. That amount is in addition to the $100,000 reward offered by the FBI, bringing the total to $200,000.

Authorities have released a description of the man seen in the video, saying he appears to be between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build. No suspect or person of interest has been publicly named.

Sheriff Nanos also addressed speculation surrounding the Guthrie family, confirming that Savannah Guthrie, her siblings, and their spouses were thoroughly investigated and fully cleared.

“We really put them through the wringer,” Nanos said. “We not just interview them, we take their cars, we take their houses, we take their phones, all this stuff and we’re not taking it. They’re giving it to us voluntarily. They have been 100% cooperative with us through everything we’ve asked. They are victims. They are not suspects.”

With DNA leads exhausted and no arrests made, investigators are now placing renewed emphasis on public assistance. Authorities urge anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward, stressing that Nancy Guthrie’s family is still waiting for answers as the search enters another critical phase.
