New information is continuing to surface surrounding the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, an incident that has sparked intense political backlash, media scrutiny, and public outrage—much of it before all the facts were known.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old resident of South Minneapolis, was shot and killed over the weekend after a confrontation with federal law enforcement officers. According to newly released government documents sent to Congress, Pretti allegedly resisted arrest and physically engaged with agents during an active federal operation.
The report, prepared by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and based on a preliminary internal review, states that two Department of Homeland Security agents discharged their firearms during a violent struggle with Pretti. The document outlines a rapidly unfolding confrontation that escalated in seconds, ultimately ending in lethal force.
According to the report, CBP agents were attempting to take Pretti into custody after he refused repeated commands to move out of the way during an enforcement action. Rather than comply, officials say Pretti became physically combative, triggering a struggle that placed officers in immediate danger.
