Top GOP Star Quietly Prepping for 2028 Shock

“According to the Post, Cruz has been criticizing Vance’s foreign-policy views in chats with GOP donors, complaining that they are overly isolationist. Cruz has also allegedly told a close ally that he’s been encouraged to run,” Daily Beast reported, summarizing the original reporting.

Cruz has also reportedly been vocal about what he sees as rising anti-Israel sentiment within the GOP, a stance that has led to repeated clashes with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “He is said to have been energized by his outspoken criticism of what he calls ‘Jew hatred and Israel bashing’ within the GOP following the war in Gaza,” the Daily Beast noted.

Political analysts question whether Cruz can unite traditional Republican principles with the party’s evolving MAGA-driven identity. “Can Ted help craft or meld together the traditional Republican approach with the new reality of what the Republican Party is now?” Daron Shaw, a political science professor at the University of Texas, told The Post. “It’s a heavy lift.”

Not all GOP voices are on Cruz’s side. Outgoing Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who once supported Trump, has grown critical of his policies. She also suggested Cruz may struggle to secure backing in Congress against Vance.

“The Republicans will be fighting for their identity,” Greene said. “There’ll be Ted Cruz, I’m sure, running against JD Vance. All of us hate Ted Cruz.”

Even some of Cruz’s longtime supporters are skeptical. Hal Lambert, a major GOP donor who helped fund Cruz’s 2016 campaign through a pro-Cruz super PAC, reportedly questioned the Texas senator’s chances against Vance.

“If JD Vance is running, I’m going to be supporting JD Vance,” Lambert said. “I just don’t understand what the platform [Cruz] would be. The platform would be, ‘I’m Ted, and that’s JD?’”

The credibility of the Post’s sources remains uncertain. Some could be insiders aiming to undermine the GOP or Vance’s anticipated campaign. Regardless, Vance’s path to the nomination appears strong.

Last weekend, Erika Kirk, widow of conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, officially endorsed Vance at the organization’s AmericaFest conference in Phoenix.

“We are going to get my husband’s friend JD Vance elected for 48 in the most resounding way possible,” she told thousands of attendees, according to video footage. People magazine reported that the crowd responded with loud applause.

Vance has not confirmed a presidential run following Trump’s current term, though GOP strategists widely expect a decision after the 2026 midterms. Should he enter the race, Turning Point USA’s extensive grassroots network could provide a powerful boost, particularly among conservative youth activists nationwide.
