None of those claims were supported by evidence.
Her accusations did not stop there. Owens then turned her attention to Turning Point USA itself, alleging internal betrayal and claiming the organization was engaged in massive financial fraud.
Those allegations were flatly denied.
The U.S. Treasury Department issued a rare clarification confirming that none of the four tax exempt organizations currently overseen by Erika Kirk were under IRS investigation. According to CBS News, a senior Treasury official said the letter was issued because “malicious lies and smears obligated her to make the request.”
For months, Erika Kirk remained largely silent.
She focused on protecting her family, preserving her husband’s legacy, and guiding Turning Point USA through one of the darkest chapters in its history. But as Owens continued escalating her rhetoric, that silence came to an end.
When TPUSA announced it would host a livestream to publicly debunk Owens’ claims, Owens declined to participate, citing a scheduling conflict. TPUSA confirmed the event would move forward without her.
That was the breaking point.
Erika Kirk spoke publicly for the first time during a Fox News appearance, drawing a clear line.
“When you go after my family, my Turning Point USA family, my Charlie Kirk Show family, when you go after the people that I love, and you’re making hundreds and thousands of dollars every single episode going after the people that I love because somehow they’re in on this, no,” she said on Fox News.
At a later CBS News town hall, Bari Weiss asked Erika Kirk what message she wanted to send directly to Candace Owens.
Her response was brief and unmistakable.
“Stop. That’s it. That’s all I have to say. Stop.”
Erika described the conspiracy theories as a “mind virus” and spoke openly about the emotional toll they had taken on her family. Prominent conservative commentators including Steven Crowder and Tim Pool also criticized Owens, accusing her of exploiting a tragedy for attention and profit.
Then came the move nobody expected.
On Sunday night, Erika Kirk announced that she would meet privately with Owens.
“Candace Owens and I are meeting for a private, in-person discussion on Monday, December 15,” Erika posted on X.
“@RealCandaceO and I have agreed that public discussions, livestreams, and tweets are on hold until after this meeting. I look forward to a productive conversation. Thank you.”
Owens replied that she was “very much looking forward to this discussion.”
The announcement sent shockwaves through conservative circles. Many supporters were stunned that Erika would agree to a private meeting with someone who had spent months attacking her family and her husband’s legacy.
Some worried Owens would later exploit the meeting for content. Others praised Erika for attempting to de escalate the conflict away from social media and cameras.
But the damage remains real.
The dispute has exposed deep fractures within the conservative movement at a time when unity matters most. Owens has increasingly embraced controversial positions, particularly regarding Israel, which led to her firing from The Daily Wire in 2024. The Anti Defamation League has labeled her rhetoric antisemitic.
Owens has also suggested Kirk was turning against Israel before his death and was under pressure from pro Israel donors. Those claims have further divided conservatives who were still grieving.
Meanwhile, Tyler Robinson, 22, remains in jail facing aggravated murder charges and the death penalty for Kirk’s assassination. FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi are overseeing the investigation.
Despite this, Owens continues to reject the official findings.
Erika Kirk’s decision to meet privately represents an attempt to bring closure to a nightmare no family should endure. Whether that effort leads to healing or fuels another wave of controversy depends entirely on what happens next.
For now, conservatives are watching closely.
