The assassination of Charlie Kirk sent a shockwave through the conservative movement that has yet to fully subside. While supporters across the country mourned the loss of one of the most influential young voices on the Right, a bitter and unexpected feud began to unfold in public.

Now, a single decision by Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, has stunned conservatives and reopened painful divisions that many hoped would fade with time.
Candace Owens, once considered one of Kirk’s closest allies, has spent months promoting increasingly extreme claims surrounding his death. Her accusations have not only inflamed online audiences but also dragged Kirk’s family and Turning Point USA into a controversy they never sought.
For years, Owens and Kirk were political partners and close friends. Owens served as communications director for Turning Point USA between 2017 and 2019, often describing Kirk as her “brother” in the conservative movement. In the immediate aftermath of his death, she appeared publicly to honor him.
But that tone did not last.
Owens soon began pushing a series of shocking and unverified claims. She alleged that Kirk was shot from below the stage at Utah Valley University. She claimed French President Emmanuel Macron authorized a hit squad with “one Israeli” to assassinate him. She insisted the U.S. military was involved in the killing.
