Ford’s EV division bled money at levels that would terrify any CEO operating in a real market. The company lost $1.4 billion in Q3 of 2025 and an eye-watering $3.6 billion through September. That isn’t consumer excitement. That’s a political mandate crashing into economic reality.
The collapse became even more obvious when Ford was forced to indefinitely halt production of its F-150 Lightning — the EV Biden held up as the future of American trucks. Citing profitability crisis after a supplier fire, Ford announced “F-150 Lightning assembly at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center will remain paused”, prioritizing gas and hybrid models instead.
Far from shrinking combustion-engine production, Ford is now adding 1,200 workers to ramp up gasoline F-150 output by 45,000 units in 2026.
That is what the real market looks like.
Biden’s Policies Made Cars More Expensive — Then Lectured Americans About “Savings”
White House officials claimed Biden’s rules would save Americans fuel costs decades into the future. Meanwhile, real families watched new-car prices soar past $50,000 for the first time in history as manufacturers scrambled to offset EV losses.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said it best: “The Biden-era plan twisted mileage standards to create an electric vehicle mandate — jacking up car prices for American families and forcing manufacturers to produce vehicles no one wanted.”
Under Trump’s reset, families are expected to save $109 billion over five years, including roughly $1,000 off the average new vehicle price — immediate relief Biden could never deliver.
Democrats Wanted Control — Not Affordability
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa openly thanked Trump’s administration for restoring sanity, saying the reforms aligned standards with “real world market conditions.”
