Washington woke up rattled on Wednesday after President Donald Trump dropped a political thunderbolt: a full and unconditional pardon for Texas Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda. The move instantly reignited outrage over what conservatives say has been one of the most blatant examples of Biden-era political targeting.
Trump delivered the announcement in classic fashion—direct, blunt, and through his favorite megaphone, Truth Social. He wasted no time going after the Biden administration, accusing it of punishing anyone who refused to go along with its border agenda. “For years, the Biden Administration weaponized the Justice System against their Political Opponents, and anyone who disagreed with them,” Trump wrote.
The former president then pointed to the Cuellar case as one of the “clearest examples” of politically charged lawfare. In his words, “Crooked Joe used the FBI and DOJ to ‘take out’ a member of his own Party after Highly Respected Congressman Henry Cuellar bravely spoke out against Open Borders, and the Biden Border ‘Catastrophe.’”
