She doubled down, insisting Charlotte was perfectly safe and even bragged that “crime rates have gone down since the previous year.”
Congresswoman Alma Adams followed the script, calling federal authorities a threat instead of a solution. “I am extremely concerned about the deployment of U.S. Border Patrol and ICE agents to Charlotte,” she claimed, framing enforcement as intimidation.
Other local Democrats jumped in too. Mayor Vi Lyles, County Chairman Mark Jerrell, and School Board President Stephanie Sneed all warned about “fear,” “uncertainty,” and disruption. According to them, the issue wasn’t crime; the issue was Trump bringing in federal law enforcement.
Then DHS dropped numbers they couldn’t spin.
Operation Charlotte’s Web Blew Up the Narrative Overnight
Within 48 hours, federal agents arrested 130 illegal aliens across Charlotte.
The shock came from what they discovered inside that group: forty-four had violent criminal histories.
The charges weren’t parking tickets. They included aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a police officer, battery, DUI, and hit-and-run. Two of those arrested were active gang members from some of the most notorious criminal organizations in the Western Hemisphere.
Among them was Manuel Vasquez-Gavarrete, a previously deported member of the 18th Street gang. Also taken into custody was Humberto Pozada-Rodriguez, an MS-13 member with a long list of convictions including trespassing, disorderly conduct, giving false info to police, and illegal entry.
Pozada-Rodriguez was no small-time offender. He had been arrested before for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, larceny, and receiving stolen property.
Charlotte residents have known for years that MS-13 operates in the region. Federal investigators link the gang to multiple murders, shootings, armed robberies, and brutal assaults throughout the city.
These weren’t the “gardeners and grocery clerks” Democrats described. These were hardened offenders who walked freely in Charlotte because local leaders refused to honor detainers.
Suddenly the Loudest Politicians Had Nothing to Say
When Fox News Digital began contacting the same Democrats who had spent days attacking Trump’s operation, they got the same answer from all of them: silence.
Representative Dew never responded. County Chairman Jerrell and School Board President Sneed stayed quiet. Mayor Lyles’ office dodged specifics and pointed to a generic statement that avoided mentioning the criminals removed from the streets.
The people who yelled the loudest couldn’t find their voices anymore.
DHS Exposed a Much Bigger Problem Democrats Didn’t Want Public
According to the Department of Homeland Security, nearly 1,400 ICE detainers across North Carolina were ignored by local authorities. That means local officials knowingly released dangerous offenders back into communities instead of cooperating with federal agents.
These weren’t low-level cases either. Among those released were an illegal alien arrested for murder, another accused of indecent liberties with a child, and multiple individuals charged with weapons offenses and violent assaults.
When confronted with that reality, Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino didn’t sugarcoat anything. “Illegal aliens have NO PLACE in our communities and should self deport via CBP Home,” he wrote bluntly.
Even North Carolina Governor Josh Stein tried to walk a narrow line, saying he wanted criminals removed while simultaneously claiming—without evidence—that agents were targeting people “based on skin color.”
But the facts undermine every talking point Democrats rolled out.
Democrats Didn’t Just Get the Story Wrong — They Helped Create the Crisis
The operation didn’t target innocent families. It targeted criminals who should have been removed long ago, but who were shielded by local officials more worried about optics than safety.
Trump’s enforcement exposed what Democrats refused to admit: their policies allowed violent offenders to walk freely through Charlotte and across the state.
And when the truth finally came out, every Democrat who spent days attacking federal agents chose the same response.
