But when Nestlé’s CEO broke a rule, the fallout was seismic—and the hypocrisy could not be clearer.
Laurent Freixe, after nearly four decades climbing the ranks of Nestlé, seemed untouchable. He appeared to believe that the policies every employee must obey somehow didn’t apply to him.
He was wrong.
On Monday, Nestlé announced Freixe had been fired following an investigation that uncovered an “undisclosed romantic relationship” with a subordinate—a clear violation of the company’s code of business conduct.¹
