It came right after Chicago’s far-left Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order trying to block Trump from sending the National Guard into the city to restore order. Johnson called potential federal action an “unconstitutional and illegal military occupation.”
The irony? Chicago recorded over 2,900 shootings last year. Families are living in a war zone created by soft-on-crime policies, defunded police departments, and prosecutors who refuse to lock up criminals. The city’s leaders failed to protect their citizens — but they’re terrified of someone else stepping in to do the job.
The real players behind the push
Goldberg’s “hypothetical” didn’t just randomly name Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom. Both have been leading the charge on extreme gun control.
Pritzker signed sweeping bans on so-called “assault weapons” and standard-capacity magazines, complete with criminal penalties for those who don’t comply. Newsom has forced through ammunition background checks, registration databases, and restrictions so burdensome that many Californians are effectively denied their constitutional rights.
These aren’t moderates searching for balance. These are power-hungry leftists who would gladly use federal muscle to disarm citizens if given the opening.
A dangerous precedent with terrifying implications
Here’s the bigger picture: if Democrats can twist federal authority into a tool for gun confiscation, there’s no going back. All it would take is a sympathetic President declaring a “gun violence emergency.” National Guard units could be dispatched to “high-risk” areas — which, conveniently, would overlap with neighborhoods full of registered gun owners.
The visits would start as “safety inspections” or “wellness checks.” But those visits would quickly turn into warrantless searches and confiscations. And if Americans resist? They’ll be labeled “domestic terrorists” to justify even more force.
The endgame exposed
This isn’t some wild conspiracy theory. It’s the natural endpoint of the Left’s decades-long obsession with disarming Americans. Goldberg just gave them the legal fig leaf they needed.
The frightening truth is simple: once Democrats establish this precedent, the Second Amendment won’t be the only target. Every constitutional protection could be steamrolled by whatever “emergency” they dream up next.
