James, who campaigned on the promise to “get Trump,” demanded $370 million in so-called damages and even tried to ban Trump and his sons from running businesses in New York. Engoron followed her lead, barring Trump “from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation” for three years.
Trump’s sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, were each fined millions, while longtime Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg was ordered to pay $1 million. The ruling was so extreme that James began preparing to seize Trump’s assets when he was unable to post the inflated bond.
But now, that entire case has been shredded. The appellate court not only struck down the massive financial penalties but also delivered a direct blow to Letitia James’ political witch hunt.
This unanimous 5-0 decision confirms what many legal experts and conservatives had been saying from the beginning: the case was never about law—it was about politics.
President Trump wasted no time responding. On Truth Social, he declared:
“A GREAT WIN FOR AMERICA!!!”
In a fiery statement, Trump continued:
“TOTAL VICTORY in the FAKE New York State Attorney General Letitia James Case! I greatly respect the fact that the Court had the Courage to throw out this unlawful and disgraceful Decision that was hurting Business all throughout New York State… The amount, including Interest and Penalties, was over $550 Million Dollars. It was a Political Witch Hunt, in a business sense, the likes of which no one has ever seen before.”
Trump blasted Judge Engoron as “one of the most overturned in History” and called Letitia James a “Trump Deranged Lunatic” who abused her office to try to take him down.
Trump made it clear this was never just a business case—it was election interference.
“This was a Case of Election Interference by the City and State trying to show, illegally, that I did things that were wrong when, in fact, everything I did was absolutely CORRECT and, even, PERFECT.”
He reminded Americans that he wasn’t even allowed a jury trial and that not a single ruling went in his favor under Engoron. Yet despite the stacked deck, the appeals court has now cleared him completely.
Trump also warned that this ruling is just the beginning. Other politically motivated cases are still being waged against him, including those overseen by Judge Juan Merchan and Judge Lewis Kaplan—both of whom Trump has called out for corruption and conflicts of interest.
“These were all Political Trials in an effort to destroy my viability as a Presidential Candidate before, during, and after the Election… This was an attack by the Biden/Harris Administration on their Political Opponent, ME.”
Despite the years-long persecution, Trump declared the moment a victory not just for himself but for the country.
“It is such an Honor to have withstood it, thrived, and even become President of the United States despite the horrible things that were done to me… This is a Great Day for New York City and State!”
