In a major win for President Donald Trump and his allies, the Senate on Saturday officially confirmed Judge Jeanine Pirro to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. The vote, which passed 50–45, puts one of Trump’s most vocal defenders in charge of prosecutions in the nation’s capital.
While conservatives celebrated the confirmation, it came after weeks of intense back-and-forth between Republicans and Democrats, who failed to strike a broader deal on dozens of President Trump’s other nominees. In the end, only a handful—just seven total—were pushed through before the Senate adjourned until September.
Pirro, well known for her fiery monologues on Fox News and her long legal resume, had already been serving in the role on an interim basis since May. With this Senate vote, her appointment is now permanent—and Democrats aren’t thrilled.
Before stepping into the national spotlight as a commentator, Pirro carved out a reputation as a relentless prosecutor. She spent over a decade as Westchester County’s District Attorney in New York and earlier served as a judge in the same jurisdiction. Trump has long admired her tenacity and record.
