In a dramatic showdown that exposed the depths of judicial activism, President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi just pulled off a political masterstroke—ensuring that Alina Habba remains at the helm of federal law enforcement in New Jersey despite a coordinated push by Democrat operatives to have her removed.
Earlier this week, a panel of federal judges—many appointed by Barack Obama and Joe Biden—voted against extending Habba’s temporary term as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. The move came after mounting pressure from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who demanded her removal following her indictment of Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver.
But Trump and Bondi weren’t going to let a swarm of politically motivated judges dictate the rule of law.
Instead of allowing the judges to claim victory, Habba stepped down from her interim position before her term officially expired Friday night. President Trump then withdrew her nomination for the permanent U.S. Attorney post—a key move that opened the door for Bondi to reappoint Habba in a way that bypasses the judiciary’s obstruction.
