Congress FLEES D.C. as Epstein Files Drop!

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

“If the executive branch won’t release phase 2 of the Epstein files, we will. Americans deserve transparency and the victims deserve justice,” Massie declared on X.

Rather than confront the controversial petition and risk a public showdown, House GOP leaders slammed on the brakes. Speaker Johnson canceled committee votes and shelved significant Republican legislation—some of it focused on key immigration and energy priorities.

In their place? Only minor, noncontroversial measures reached the House floor before lawmakers were told to pack it up and go home.

On Monday, Johnson claimed, “We have lots of work with appropriations and committees doing very important stuff.” But by Tuesday morning, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) quietly confirmed the shift in plans, signaling the week was effectively over.

According to Axios, the Epstein drama had paralyzed leadership and froze House business entirely, prompting them to head for the exits early.

“The House is leaving Washington a day early for its five-week August recess after tensions erupted over efforts to force release of the Jeffrey Epstein files,” the outlet reported. “Fallout from the debate over the Epstein files has effectively frozen House business. Leadership opted to cut the week short and leave town before things escalate further.”

What followed was a stunning rebuke from Speaker Johnson, who held nothing back during a Tuesday press conference.

Johnson, clearly rattled by the blow to party unity, accused Massie of derailing the GOP’s messaging and partnering with Democrats for political optics.

“I don’t understand Thomas Massie’s motivation. I really don’t. I don’t know how his mind works…. I don’t know what he’s what he’s thinking,” Johnson said.

He went on to accuse Massie of grandstanding, noting that the Kentucky congressman had years to act—but waited for a politically charged moment.

“Thomas Massie could have brought his discharge petition anytime over the last four and a half years, over the last four years of Biden administration. He could have done that at any time, and now he’s clamoring as if there’s some sort of timeline on it,” Johnson continued.

He added, “It’s interesting to me that he chose the election of President Trump to bring this, to team up with the Democrats and bring this discharge petition. So do I have some concern about that? I do.”

Then came the zinger: “Let me just say about Thomas Massie, could you just accept my Southern, bless his heart, okay, I don’t know what else to say about it.”

The episode sparked reaction from across the political spectrum. Conservative commentator Mike Cernovich didn’t mince words, accusing Massie of being disingenuous.

“Why didn’t he do this during Biden’s regime? Total stunt queen with deep resentment for Trump—and he’s insulting your intelligence,” Cernovich posted.

The latest infighting over the Epstein files has exposed a raw nerve inside the Republican conference. While some, like Massie, are demanding full transparency no matter the political cost, others in leadership are trying to keep the powder keg from exploding in public view.

With lawmakers now gone until September, the fight over truth and accountability surrounding Jeffrey Epstein—and who knew what—won’t be cooling off any time soon. The question remains: who’s trying to bury the truth, and why?
