“In what appears to be the early stages of the FBI criminal investigation, prosecutors have impaneled a federal grand jury to hear evidence in the eastern district of Virginia after the head of the federal housing agency, William Pulte, last month made the referral to the justice department, the people said,” The Guardian reported.
That grand jury isn’t just for show. It’s a strong signal that federal investigators believe there’s fire behind all this smoke. And unlike the political circus James created around Trump’s civil case, this investigation is being handled quietly and professionally — just as it should be.
“This is being handled at this time by main (Department of) Justice and the Albany FBI field office,” said U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III, head of the Northern District of New York. “We stand prepared to act in the capacity that we need to when and if we are informed there’s a charge to be made. Unlike Letitia James, who unethically ran around the state campaigning on getting Donald Trump… my office conducts itself in a manner that is proper and professional.”
That’s a devastating rebuke of James’ politically motivated behavior — and a sharp contrast in how real justice operates.
Faced with mounting legal pressure, James pulled a predictable move: she blamed Trump.
“This appears to be the political retribution President Trump threatened to exact that AG Bondi assured the Senate would not occur on her watch. If prosecutors are genuinely interested in the truth, we are prepared to meet false claims with facts,” James said.
It’s a desperate attempt to flip the script — but this time, the facts might not be on her side.
Even left-leaning legal commentators are acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. Former NBC and ABC legal analyst Dan Abrams didn’t mince words when discussing the case on his Sirius XM show.
“Her legal defenses are interesting, but I do not see how she does not get charged here,” Abrams said.
“I believe the attorney general of New York is going to get charged by the feds here criminally. I think this is going to be a big deal. I think it is a case that is being under-covered right, even in the right wing media. I’ve been surprised this hasn’t gotten more attention,” Abrams added.
James may soon find herself on the receiving end of the same justice system she weaponized against political opponents. If the allegations hold up, her career in politics could be over — and a prison sentence may not be out of the question.
What makes this story especially explosive is the irony. The same AG who claimed to be upholding the law by going after Trump could now be found guilty of violating it for personal gain. And unlike the Trump case, where no bank lost a dime, this involves potential mortgage fraud — an actual crime with real-world consequences.
Stay tuned. This case isn’t going away anytime soon. And for Letitia James, the legal tide may have finally turned.
