Woke Military? Commander BOOTED for JD Vance Joke!

The comment came across to many in the chain of command as dangerously political—something strictly off-limits for uniformed officers. And her fate was sealed within hours.

Her email further stated, “I commit that, for as long as I am lucky enough to lead this base, all of our flags will fly proudly… together.”

But that leadership didn’t last much longer.

Space Base Delta 1 Commander Col. Kenneth Klock made the call on April 10, officially removing Meyers from her post. A press release from the Space Force clarified the rationale: commanders must uphold “the highest standards of conduct, especially as it relates to remaining nonpartisan in the performance of their duties.”

Col. Shawn Lee has since taken command of the strategically critical Arctic base, which serves as the northernmost U.S. military outpost and a key point of observation over increasingly contested polar routes.

The backlash was swift and widespread. Social media lit up with support for Meyers’ dismissal. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell didn’t mince words, writing, “Actions to undermine the chain of command or to subvert President Trump’s agenda will not be tolerated at the Department of Defense.”

Senator Jim Banks of Indiana also weighed in: “Colonel Meyers tried to politicize the Space Force and was held accountable. Lloyd Austin isn’t SecDef anymore.”

The timing of this internal drama couldn’t be more geopolitically significant. President Trump has long floated the idea of acquiring Greenland, a mineral-rich and strategically located territory, from Denmark.

In fact, just days before Meyers’ fateful email, Vice President Vance told reporters that the United States might need to “take more territorial interest in Greenland.”

Trump has reportedly pushed this initiative behind closed doors with lawmakers, telling Congress he wants to bring Greenland under U.S. control “one way or another,” citing “international security” as the justification.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed the administration’s concerns during an interview with Megyn Kelly, emphasizing that Arctic dominance is key to deterring China’s expansion.

“The Arctic circle and the Arctic region is going to become critical for shipping lanes… As some of the ice is melting, there’s become more and more navigable. We need to be able to defend that,” Rubio explained.

He went on to warn about Beijing’s potential ambitions: “It is completely realistic to believe that the Chinese will eventually, maybe in the short-term, try to do in Greenland what they have done at the Panama Canal… And that is install facilities that give them access to the Arctic with the cover of a Chinese company, but that in reality serve a dual purpose.”

Rubio concluded with a stark message: “If the Chinese begin to threaten Greenland… do we really trust that that is not a place where they would not intervene, maybe by force?”

The Trump administration’s strategy on Greenland is no longer a joke in late-night monologues—it’s now U.S. policy, backed by a military command structure that’s being purged of dissent.

Colonel Meyers learned the hard way: in Trump’s Pentagon, loyalty to the mission—and to the Commander-in-Chief—isn’t optional.
