2028 SHOCK: Democrat Bows Out Early!

Buttigieg, for one, seems determined to stay in the national spotlight. Having opted not to run for Michigan’s open Senate or gubernatorial seats, the former cabinet secretary has been making media rounds and courting the digital crowd in what some call a “shadow campaign.”

He recently popped up in Washington, D.C. to mingle with Democrat content creators and influencers, a move that aligns with his growing presence in online media. “I’m using my voice best I can in traditional media and new media, and I’m going to continue having conversations with neighbors, with voters, talking about how we could have a better way,” Buttigieg told the Washington Examiner.

While he hasn’t formally declared anything, political insiders see his every move as calculated prep for a 2028 launch. In April, he cleared his schedule by removing himself from Michigan races, opening the door wide for a national campaign.

Democrats, especially those eyeing the White House, are paying attention to how the media landscape has shifted. Buttigieg, often praised by liberal columnists like Ezra Klein who once dubbed him the “Democratic Party’s acknowledged best-of-class communicator,” seems to have taken a page from Trump’s playbook—using online media to speak directly to younger audiences and bypass traditional outlets.

Influencer and political analyst Sammy Kanter praised his media strategy, saying: “He’s going on podcasts, and with that, he’s meeting Americans where they are on both sides of the aisle. He’s interacting with creators and taking the online sphere in a serious manner, as it should be. And he’s excelling in that space because he is able to explain complex happenings in an approachable way.”

It’s a move that mirrors President Trump’s massively successful digital presence during his 2024 campaign—where appearances on shows like Joe Rogan’s podcast brought his message to millions outside the mainstream press.

So while Wes Moore is stepping off the field for now, the Democrat primary is far from settled. The stage is wide open, the media machine is humming, and Pete Buttigieg just might be next in line for a starring role—whether the DNC likes it or not.

One thing’s certain: the 2028 race is already underway. And the Democratic bench may look younger, but the power plays are just as ruthless.
