As he gets ready to handle a startling revelation in court, Jack Smith faces a big obstacle.

Donald Trump is heard discussing a top-secret combat strategy with Mark Meadows’ biographers in a recording that Smith’s camp claims was leaked, hinting at a possible conflict with Iran.

According to reports, Trump used the memo to refute General Mark Milley’s baseless claim that he planned to start a war with Iran during his final days in office.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump denied having the document and made it clear that he was only referring to news articles and clippings about the incident.

“I didn’t have a document per se. There was nothing to declassify. These were newspaper stories, magazine stories, and articles,” Trump stated.

The supposed Iran war plan paper was not one of the official records Smith accused Trump of holding, according to a recent CBS story, supporting Trump’s claim that he did not have it.

“The Defense Department memo on Iran — at the heart of the now-public audio recording that captured a July 2021 meeting with former President Donald Trump — is not part of the 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information charged in special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of the former president, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to CBS News,” CBS News reports.

This supposed document’s existence is still up for discussion. The validity of this paper being submitted to the government is disputed by Trump’s attorneys.

“Multiple sources familiar with the investigation previously told CBS News that defense attorneys were not certain the Iran memo in question was ever recovered and returned to the government. Still, the 2021 incident is one of two instances referenced in the indictment, in which Smith describes Trump allegedly showing national defense information to individuals without proper clearance,” CBS News added.

One of two incidents where Smith claims Trump gave unauthorized people access to classified information is the one involving the Iran war plan.

If the memo describing the Iran war plan was never in Trump’s possession, Smith is accusing him of revealing information that he never even possessed.

The most important piece of evidence in Smith’s case is thought to be this audio tape.

However, there is a great deal of doubt about its veracity and basis in fact.
