On Monday, Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau missed the traditional group photo at the G20 summit in Brazil, arriving after the picture was already taken. While officials cited a “timing issue” for the delay, it was an odd omission from an event of such global importance.

According to the Associated Press, other world leaders were seen mingling and chatting after the photo session, with smiles and friendly gestures exchanged among the group. Meanwhile, Biden’s absence left Chinese President Xi Jinping front and center, standing prominently in the shot with the scenic backdrop of Rio de Janeiro’s skies and waters. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, by contrast, stood in the back row, more inconspicuous in the photo.
