Ken Paxton, a well-known figure in Texas politics, has been the Attorney General since 2015. His career background spans from management consulting to practicing law, including time as in-house counsel at J.C. Penney. Paxton first stepped into the political arena as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013, followed by a term in the Texas Senate.
When pressed on whether he would officially nominate Paxton for the national role, Trump responded affirmatively. “I would, actually,” Trump stated. “He’s been a very good Attorney General. I fought for him when he had the difficulty and we won. He had some people really after him and I thought it was very unfair. He’s been a very good Attorney General.”

Throughout his tenure, Paxton has been a vigorous advocate for conservative causes, frequently confronting the federal government in court. His opposition to the Affordable Care Act and involvement in legal disputes over DACA and other Obama-era policies have defined his term. More dramatically, in 2020, accusations from several of his top aides regarding bribery and abuse of office led to an FBI investigation. Despite his impeachment by the Texas House of Representatives in May 2023, Paxton was acquitted by the Texas Senate later that year.
Paxton’s political and legal endeavors have shown a clear alignment with Trump’s policies, especially noted during Trump’s administration. Paxton was at the forefront of challenging federal directives and even filed a lawsuit to contest the 2020 presidential election results in four battleground states, echoing Trump’s allegations of electoral fraud.
