The update, rolled out last Tuesday, includes not just the controversial wallpapers but also enhancements to Apple News, along with various bug fixes and security enhancements for iPhones.
Apple’s release notes describe the update: “This update introduces a new Pride Radiance wallpaper for the Lock Screen, Apple News enhancements, and other features, bug fixes, and security updates for your iPhone. Some features may not be available for all regions or on all Apple devices.”

The inclusion of LGBTQ+-themed wallpapers, while not mandatory for use, has been criticized by some as an unnecessary politicization of a standard technology update. On social media platforms such as Twitter, users have expressed mixed feelings. For instance, a Twitter user named Sid sarcastically remarked, “iOS 17.5 is out! Nothing new, just a new wallpaper pack for gay people which even they’ll refuse to use because of how bad it looks.”
