Watch The Moment Murdaugh Is Found Guilty

Attorney Alex Murdaugh was found guilty on Thursday by a jury in South Carolina of the terrible crime of killing his own wife and son in 2021. His actions shocked everyone in the neighborhood and put a stop to this terrible tragedy.

54-year-old Murdaugh remained stoic as the jury’s guilty judgment was read following a stressful three-hour deliberation. He was found guilty of two counts of murder and having a weapon while committing a violent crime. The closing argument from the defense did not influence the jury’s verdict in this horrifying case.

Murdaugh received a terrible punishment from Judge Clifton Newman on Friday: two life sentences without the possibility of parole. For him and his family, receiving his sentence is the start of an unthinkable journey inside bars.

Alan Wilson, the attorney general of South Carolina, revealed that justice is blind when the outcome of a well-known case proved what many already knew to be true: No one is exempt from legal responsibility regardless of their position or level of authority.

“It doesn’t matter how prominent you are — if you do wrong, if you break the law, if you murder, then justice will be done in South Carolina,” lead prosecutor Creighton Waters told reporters.

Even if it risked implicating his own counsel, Wilson’s declaration was what led to Murdaugh’s conviction.

“I think Alex Murdaugh was our biggest piece of evidence when he took the stand. I think that was fatal for him, ultimately,” Wilson said Friday during an appearance on “Today.”

“When he took the stand, that was basically in my opinion, that Alex had made a very successful career of giving closing arguments to juries and winning major cases and making a lot of money. This was his closing argument to the jury,” Wilson said.

“I believe, in my mind, that he believed that he could talk his way out of this and, at the end of the day, I think it’s what sealed it for him,” he said.

One very important piece of evidence, video recorded on the late Paul’s cell phone, strengthened the case against Murdaugh.

“It was basically Paul speaking from beyond the grave that yes, Alex Murdaugh was there, just moments before Maggie and Paul were brutally murdered and that that was a major piece of the state’s case,” Wilson said.

Wilson said Murdaugh “had created a web of lies for over a decade that led to this culminating point in this trial. Obviously, he had lied. He had been lying his way out of things for so long that he had forgotten what it was like to tell the truth.”

When it came to the jury’s verdict, Craig Moyer opined that a gripping film was essential for illuminating what had actually happened.

“I was certain it was [Murdaugh’s] voice,” he said.

Murdaugh was referred to as a “master of deceit” and accused of weaving a complex web of lies by Moyer during his testimony.

“He knew what he wanted to say. I mean he is a lawyer. I didn’t see any true remorse or any compassion or anything,” he said.
