Caitlin Clark, the record-breaking phenom who has reignited national interest in women’s basketball, finally reached her breaking point during Tuesday night’s matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun. The highly anticipated game, held in Boston, ended in emotional turmoil as Clark was left in tears and possibly re-injured.
The former Iowa star has spent the entire WNBA season under relentless physical pressure. Fans have watched as officials repeatedly turned a blind eye while Clark has been shoved, bumped, and brutalized by opposing players. And through it all, the league has done next to nothing to protect its biggest draw.
On Tuesday night, things boiled over.
During a second-half stoppage in play, Clark approached referee Michael Price to voice her concerns. In a moment caught on camera, the two exchanged words — but something Price said clearly struck a nerve. What was meant to be a simple exchange escalated quickly. Clark snapped.
